State of Mind’s single Stutter is an excerpt from the genre-crossing Copenhagen artist’s upcoming four-movement suite Étant Donnés. And the track drops plenty of hints about this future release.

Firstly, State of Mind has largely abandoned traditional songwriting, relying instead on prolonged instrumental improvisations - parts of which are then selected to be used as repetitive loops. In the case of Stutter, the result is decidedly funky - but with an unsettling robotic feel.

Secondly, like much of Étant Donnés, it’s almost an instrumental - but not quite. The track features a vocal line, but cut into fragments and so heavily edited that it appears utterly abstract.

The Stutter single also includes Paolo Rabellotti’s remix of How Can Anyone from State of Mind’s previous album Miserabilism.
